Social Media ...

Blog, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube all relating to your website

Social Media is a real hot topic.
Many companies have discovered that the ROI (Return On Investment) is really high compared to conventional advertising.

Social Media covers things like Blogs (e.g. WordPress), microblogs (e.g. Twitter), content communities (e.g. Youtube), and social networking sites (e.g. Facebook).

A business can use a selection of these tools to:

  • Increase traffic to your website.
  • Significantly raise your search engine rating.
  • Actively look for potential customers.
  • Build a 'fan' base of customers.
  • Have a much wider reach in to your market place.

Blogging

Blog with a loud hailerWe would recommend having a separate blogging platform with a Blog Feed on the home page of your website.

The website would have fairly fixed pages of content, promotions, products, contact information, privacy statement, terms and conditions, etc.

But on a blog you can write relevant, topical, reasonably detailed articles of interest.

The Blog Feed on the home page of your website would keep that page fresh and up-to-date.

Twitter

TweetTweets are little blasts of information of less than 120 characters, including spaces, but in practice is more like a 100 characters to allow room for when someone Retweets your message.

Tweets can also be sent when you create a new Blog post.  Twitter is also used by companies to search out potential customers.

A Twitter feed can be put on any page on your website.

Facebook

FacebookFacebook has millions of potential customers communicating with each other.

On Facebook you need to be chatty, informal (not a faceless, sterile company) where people get to know individuals.

The rules of Facebook do not allow you to sell products - you task is to build a following of enthusiastic people who 'spread the word' about your company.

You need to have a Landing Page that is different from the standard 'Wall' look of Facebook.
It needs to be designed so that when a visitor clicks the 'Like' button to be a 'fan' of your page, it will show different items the next time they return - in other words, it will display a Fan Page.

Your comments from your wall can be shown in a feed on one of the pages of your website.
